In addition to recyclables, the Center will also accept household junk, scrap metal, used paints and oils, and discarded electronics as outlined below. There is no charge for using the Center, except for a charge of up to $30 for pickup trucks and small trailer loads of materials delivered to the facility that require disposal. In addition, any resident wishing to dispose of allowable materials must provide a valid trash receipt for materials to be accepted. Household garbage and any material delivered in dump trucks and large trailers will not be accepted.

A video surveillance system has been installed at the Center and will be used to assist with the prosecution of any person that leaves any material at or near the site when it is not open.

Acceptable items for Recycling include:
o Aluminum, steel and bi-metal food and beverage cans
o The following plastic materials:
o No. 1 (PET) clear containers for soft drinks and bottled water.
o No. 2 (HDPE) colored or translucent containers for milk, juice, and household chemicals.
o No. 3 (V) plastic tubing, insulation, siding and PVC pipe.
o No. 4 (LDPE) plastic film, dry cleaning bags, bread bags, and plastic bags.

o The following paper products - newspaper, magazines, catalogs, shredded paper, office paper, copy paper, coated paper, file folders, envelopes, greeting cards, mail inserts, telephone books, paperback books, and hard back books with covers removed.
o Corrugated cardboard (folded).
o Glass jars and bottles (clear, green and brown)
o Electronic items (VCRs, computers, TV's, telephones, microwaves, radios, stereos, etc.)
o Used motor oil/oil filters/antifreeze (Container size is limited to 1 gallon or less, no drums or large buckets will be accepted)
o Scrap metal
o Car (lead acid) batteries
o Passenger car tires (removed from rim) subject to a fee of $1.50 per tire
o Appliances- washers, dryers, refridgerators, freezers and stoves

Cans, bottles and containers should be washed and free of food residuals.

Unacceptable materials for Recycling include: light bulbs, window glass, broken glassware and dishes, paper towels, food wrappers, food wastes, bathroom trash, foil trays, metal fixtures, aerosol cans, paint cans and Styrofoam. However, plastic, glass and metal materials that can't be recycled will be accepted for disposal.
Other materials that will be accepted for disposal include: Household junk including old carpets, shingles, old furniture, etc.

Hopefully, Hancock County residents will find the Center a good option for recycling most of the materials that they would normally discard in their trash. In addition, with the Center being open every Saturday, residents should find the facility a useful and convenient choice for getting rid of hard to dispose of items.
